Abstract

Egyházunk mai helyzete sok tekintetben korrelál a Horthy-korszakban tapasztaltakkal. A városiasodás társadalmunkban immár kétszáz éve meghatározó folyamat, amely már a 20. század első felében is számos kihívást eredményezett elődeink szolgálatára nézve. A szekularizáció hatása, a média erősödő befolyása, a közösségek életének átrendeződése már akkor is reagálásra, alkalmazkodásra kényszerítette az egyházi közösségeket. Ebben a tekintetben az elmúlt száz év alatt a helyzet csak fokozódott. Mindez abba az irányba terelte érdeklődésemet, hogy az egyháztörténet tárgykörén belül a magyar, közelebbről a debreceni reformátusság két világháború közötti helyzetével és történetével foglalkozzak. Ezért választottam disszertációm témájául a debreceni reformátusok belmissziós szerveződését, A Debreceni Kálvinisták Templomegyesületét. A Debreceni Kálvinisták Templomegyesületének egyháztörténeti jelentősége több rétegben bontakozik ki előttünk. A debreceni gyülekezet központi szerepéhez nem férhet kétség. A Templomegyesület története a korszak két meghatározó egyházkormányzójának, Baltazár Dezsőnek és Révész Imrének nevével is egybeforrt. A tisztikarban és a támogatók között olyan várostörténeti szempontból is megkerülhetetlen polgárokat találunk, mint Dóczy Gedeon, Karai Sándor, Magoss György, Márk Endre, Szomjas Gusztáv vagy éppen Vásáry István. Mindemellett az egyesület története életszerű képet ad az egyházias kálvinizmus teológiai meglátásaira támaszkodó debreceni belmisszóról./ The current situation of our church correlates in many respects with that experienced during the Horthy era. Urbanization has been a defining process in our society for two hundred years now, and even in the first half of the 20th century, it presented numerous challenges to the ministry of our predecessors. The effects of secularization, the growing influence of the media, and the restructuring of community life forced church communities to react and adapt even then. In this respect, the situation has only intensified over the past hundred years. All this led me to focus my interest on church history, specifically the situation and history of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Debrecen between the two world wars. That is why I chose the home missionary organization of the Reformed Church in Debrecen, the Debrecen Calvinist Church Association, as the topic of my dissertation. The ecclesiastical significance of the Debrecen Calvinist Church Association unfolds before us in several layers. There is no doubt about the central role of the Debrecen congregation. The history of the Church Association is intertwined with the names of two influential church leaders of the era, Dezső Baltazár and Imre Révész. Among the leadership board and the supporters, we find citizens who are indispensable from a city history perspective, such as Gedeon Dóczy, Sándor Karai, György Magoss, Endre Márk, Gusztáv Szomjas, and István Vásáry. In addition, the history of the Association provides a realistic picture of the Debrecen Home Mission, which was based on the theological views of ecclesiastical Calvinism.
